Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation (Statewide Organization). Awarded $15,000 in 2021.

Because of the Fund for Women grant our organization has been able to…

Completely fund the needs of 30 applicants who applied for scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year.  A number of these low-income women will graduate this spring, opening doors to new careers with improved income and lifestyles.  Each was supported by a dedicated mentor.  The Fund for Women grant contributed with other funds to reach a total of $91,000 to support this year’s class of women attending Delaware colleges and universities.

"The Fresh Start scholarship has been one of the first times I have felt as though I was with a group of people where I fit in.  Everyone has a similar background, similar struggles and similar dreams and drive to achieve them.  This program truly gave me one of my first signs of hope that I can actually go to school and that it is possible to graduate.  My mentor has been my rock.  When no one else understands, she is there.  I can't quite articulate how important she is to me.  Thank you for this opportunity.  I hope in the future when I am considered successful by society's yardstick, I am able to continue my relationship with Fresh Start in some way to further support the work being done and further support other women who simply need someone to believe in them."

Additional Accomplishments of Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation:

Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation just  proudly celebrated 25 years of fresh starts for over 260 low-income Delaware women. The highlight of this event was a video endorsement with glowing comments from Dr. Jill Biden, Senators Chris Coons and Tom Carper and Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester. All of these government officials agree that education is the key to leveling the playing field for all populations and that Fresh Start is playing an important role in empowering low- income women through education.

In 2021, Fresh Start supported a class of 30 women with funding and mentors.  These women were operating under pandemic conditions so emotional support was more crucial than ever.  The funding of these women brought the cumulative total for funds raised and awarded to $1,300,000. Funds from the Fund for Women from last year and in previous years were a vital part of this impressive total.
